Why we need your support!

Letter from Lindsey Rennard, CEO

I was so pleased that members at the Neuro Foundation’s AGM seemed to enjoy the day and gave such good feedback. We are very grateful to our speakers Dr Sue Huson, Dr Saba Sharif, Daniele Carrieri and Carolyn Redman, and have included details of the AGM with this newsletter for those of you unable to attend.

After talking to members about the date, I’m delighted to announce that the date of the next AGM will be Saturday 7 July 2012. The speakers will be announced in the December newsletter, and I do hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend.

One of the topics discussed with members at the AGM was the NF2 weekend, which the charity is planning on 19/20 May 2012. This will be held at the Sheffield Royal Hotel, which has been a successful venue for previous weekend. I’m delighted that Professor Gareth Evans has again agreed to speak; other speakers are currently being finalised. Full details will appear on our website and in the December newsletter; please contact head office 90208 4391234 or info@nfauk.org to book a place or for more information.

We also discussed NF1 in schools – we receive many calls from parents of children with NF1 who are experiencing difficulties at school. It was suggested the Neuro Foundation promote CAF (Common Assistance Framework) and factsheets for schools via the website and literature; that they target SENCo and School Nurses conferences. It was commented that the transition from primary to secondary and to the sixth form could be difficult, but the transition to university was better; a suggestion was the charity approach one of the universities to draft best practice guidelines.

Members discussed local fundraising, and it was wonderful to see so much energy and enthusiasm – you can read about their ideas on the fundraising pages, which will hopefully want to make you join in!

Thank you to all members for your support and feedback.
