The Ascent of Ben Nevis

Ben Nevis ChallengeSemptember 15-17th 2006

Group travel to Fort William is arranged by rail and coach from any one of 79 railway stations across the UK for Friday 7th October 2005, so you may need to book a full day or a half day off work, depending on where you live. You can, of course, make your own travel arrangements and let us know you will be joining the group at Fort William.

As soon as we arrive in Fort William on the Friday there will be a meeting to go through all the final details of the event, after which we sit down to a hearty dinner.

On Saturday morning after a full Scottish breakfast we board the coach to the base of the Ben where you will be passed into the capable hands of the guides, for our walk up "yon-hill". (see Walk Details) Everyone will be off the Ben before 5pm, then it's back to the hotel again where you will be served dinner in the evening.

Saturday is by no means over, there is still the famous party/disco/ceilidh which normally goes on until the wee small hours, so bring your glad rags.

We will depart Sunday morning after breakfast at 9.30am, dropping off the last of the adventurers in the late afternoon /early evening.

At the top! October 2005
Ben Nevis at 4,408ft (1,344m) is Britain's highest mountain. The route that we have chosen is to follow the footpath up from the bridge by the Achintee car park towards Johns Wall Corner, past the water fall then over the zigzag to the summit. This is the easiest route up the mountain and it provides stunning views over the western islands of Skye and Mull on a clear day. The average time spent on Ben Nevis is 7 hours.
