World NF Day 2016 Breakdown

Thank you to everyone who took part in World NF Day 2016! We are very proud of our delivery this year, and wanted to share it with you! Below is a list of what we delivered, and a few more details!

We organised an #ENDNF Projection on the Royal Liver Building

The Royal Liver Building lit up for us on World NF Day at 8pm as part of our Shine a Light On NF Campaign! Paired with EMF Technologies we had a very vibrant animation that featured the #ENDNF Hashtag incredibly clearly. Families and supporters gathered to take photos and video for us, and sent us some stunning shots and video! Credit to Jay for insisting this was a great idea – this image received a over 10,000 views before 7am on the 18th May and has been very well received by the public.

We teamed up with Children’s Tumor Foundation in America to Shine a Light on NF

Last year, Children’s Tumor Foundation in the USA lit up forty buildings across the USA, and I believe, 1 or 2 lit up in the UK, with help from our members. This year, The Neuro Foundation officially joined the campaign and we lit up a fantastic 50 iconic buildings across the UK and Northern Ireland – with representatives of every country, and almost every major city. 136 buildings lit up worldwide, in 8 countries. 50 of those were us, and 5 of those countries were via The Neuro Foundation! Our press release went to thousands of news outlets, and so far has been picked up by a few outlets, with hopefully more to come
We released a Social Media Toolkit to every organisation lighting up for us

We released a Social Media Toolkit to every organisation lighting up for us

We’ve created a social media toolkit which came with pre-worded tweets, pre-prepared Facebook posts, images for Instagram, Facebook and twitter, and several of the organisations made use of these. This meant that our extended reach was amplified because not only our page, but several other organisations were pushing our website, branding and of course the Shine a Light on NF message.

Introducing MyNF.nfauk.org

MyNF is a website billed as “Specialist NF Advice for the Under 18’s”! Generously funded by the Garfield Weston Foundation. It features a whole host of great controls from our side, including moderation and safeguarding facilities, to allow for an interactive “NF Wall” where young people are already sharing their NF Stories. Not only is it a new platform, but it has been written for the Under 18 audience directly, allowing them to learn more about their condition. We’ve been keeping our lips sealed about this one, and surprised our community on World NF Day with a Surprise Announcement!

We revamped our website!

We launched this the day before World NF Day just to avoid any last minute glitches on our big day! Everything went swimmingly, and the new website allows us to upload video content, directly connect to fundraising sites, customise call-to-actions, and with our newly revamped “resources” area, the support services are more obviously available than ever before. There is also new design freedoms for us in the Comms team to make our campaigns stand out better than ever!
Comedy Club 4 Kids: Helping kids with NF gain body confidence and social skills

Comedy Club 4 Kids: Helping kids with NF gain body confidence and social skills

Karen says “this was one of the most rewarding and fab afternoons I’ve spent in the charity”. The children loved the comedians act, which was run by Comedy4kids. The Children were all incredibly timid on arrival, and immediately welcomed and encouraged by the interactive nature of the comedy show. The show was followed by a kids comedy workshop, which featured the 5 comedians who helped the children tell their own funny stories – not just a stories, but how to help make them work as jokes! They got a chance to try out the microphone, and the kids enjoyed the event so much that the event overrun by about an hour due to the enthusiasm of the kids and the host!
Social Media Campaign: #ShareYourSelfie

Social Media Campaign: #ShareYourSelfie

We released our newsletter (which featured a whole new style!) in late april, early may- just in time to deliver our centre fold poster to hundreds of households. We then asked everyone with a copy (and made a downloadable version from our website!) to take a ‘selfie’ and share it wt us on Facebook and Twitter! We received loads of pictures, showcasing the support of our members and their friends and family. All with the #ENDNF hashtag, contributing in a major way to the global #ENDNF movement!
